May 29, 2008: WYFF 4 Has History Of Taking Stand
WYFF 4 signed on the air on New Year's Eve 1953, the first Upstate television station to begin local broadcasts.Over our 54-year history, we have reached out through our strong news programming and a multitude of public service projects and campaigns designed to make our communities more informed and a better place to live.Part of our heritage here at WYFF 4 has been community involvement through editorials which took a stand on issues or spurred thought about life around us.
We believe those editorials have made a difference through the years. Those of you who have been a part of our family for many years may remember legendary broadcaster Norvin Duncan, whose editorial sign off was the memorable "that's our opinion, what's yours?"Or you may recall one of my predecessors as General Manager, Doug Smith, whose measured delivery, but strong message made us think about where our community was headed.Following in the tradition of Norvin and Doug, we are bringing editorials back to WYFF 4.Each week, you'll see me here, sharing our feelings on a variety of topics, following our 54-year tradition of informing and making you think. We may not always agree, but I can promise you that we all have the same goal of seeing our communities be the best they can be.
