June 12, 2008: Service Award Shared With Community
Those of us at WYFF 4 had something good happen to us this week and we wanted to not only share that with you, but also thank you for what we've done together. The National Association of Broadcasters gave WYFF 4 its "Service to America" award for public service. There are about 1,500 television stations in the country, but only one national community service award.
It's now been given to our station, but that could not have happened without all of you.The judges recognized that we worked with 48 local community organizations on a wide variety of community initiatives. These include long established relationships with fine organizations like the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and the Urban League of the Upstate among a host of others.Through these partnerships, things were done in this community that affect lives in a positive way.Through your giving, many of our neighbors were helped by the Holiday Sunshine Fund, which is our partnership with The Greenville News. You also made the hospital stay of Upstate children a lot brighter through your giving to the Virtual Toy Drive -- where we partnered with our friends at the Greenville Hospital System. At monthly task force meetings across our area, we meet face to face with community leaders to discuss issues, concerns and ideas. Many of those ideas help us determine how to best impact and help our neighbors. For all of this, we need to thank you for staying in touch with us.Thank you for helping to spread the good news of help available in our communities. For digging deep to give to those in need. For telling us what we can do together to make our area a better place to live.WYFF 4 may have been given the Service to America award, but we share it with you, along with our sincere thanks.
