Artist Brings Rural South To Life

POSTED: 5:26 pm EDT May 2, 2007

Jeffery Callaham grew up in rural McCormick County in a town called Plum Branch.

Callaham paints mostly African-American rural folk art of life on the Southern farm.

But even if you didn't grow up in the South, or on a farm, you will know the people he paints.

The people in Callaham’s paintings people don't have faces, but the lack of a specific identity can help spark memories.

On May 19, Callaham will be at Clemson University’s Fran Hanson Discovery Center. The event is scheduled from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. and tickets are $20.
