WAYNESVILLE, N.C. -- A Haywood County grand jury has indicted the Florida man suspected of shooting a state trooper to death during a traffic stop last week.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reported that court documents offer details of events leading to the traffic stop and capture of Edward Wong II.

Wong, 37, was indicted on charges of first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon after a grand jury found prosecutors have enough evidence to proceed to trial.

The documents show Wong fired as many as four shots at a detective chasing him. The shots were fired from one of the three handguns found in Wong’s truck.

Wong is charged with shooting 24-year-old Trooper David Shawn Blanton Jr. on June 17 on Interstate 40 near Canton.

Wong is expected back in court on July 9 for a preliminary hearing.
