School Locked Down After Robbery Suspect's Car Found Nearby

POSTED: 3:05 pm EDT August 18, 2008

A sighting of a possible robbery suspect caused the lockdown of an Oconee County elementary school on the first day of classes.

Code Elementary School in Seneca was placed on a security alert for a short time Monday a fternoon.

Seneca Police said an armed robbery took place at J and C Food Mart on Shiloh Road.

Shortly after the robbery, a car matching the description of the robbers' car was found near the school.

Because of that discovery, school officials decided to restrict the students to their classrooms as a precaution.

School was dismissed without incident on schedule.

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the armed robbery.
