Officers Charged After Incident With USC Player

POSTED: 3:52 pm EDT August 18, 2008

Two Columbia police officers face charges of misconduct in office following an incident with a University of South Carolina football player.

Roger Gilland and David Beddingfield Jr. are accused of using excessive force when arresting Gamecocks offensive lineman Kevin Young, according to The State newspaper.

On March 2, Young was charged with fighting and resisting arrest after a nightclub brawl near campus. Officers gave Young a citation but did not take him to jail.

The charges against Young were dropped later that month.
