POSTED: 10:50 am EDT August 19, 2008
UPDATED: 11:06 am EDT August 19, 2008

Authorities say a 10-year-old boy is dead after he was accidentally shot by his teenage cousin while visiting his grandmother's house in Lexington County.

Batesburg-Leesville Police Chief Wallace Oswald said Tamija Carnard died early Monday morning at a local hospital. No charges have been filed against the 15-year-old cousin.

Investigators believe the gun was fired unintentionally as the boys played with it.

Authorities said the gun did not belong to the boys' grandmother, but police are considering charges against other family members.

Oswald said three of six guns that were found in the home were loaded.
