GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Gas prices continue to fall to levels that haven't been seen in years, and anyone looking for a bargain can check out prices in Greenville.According to AAA, of all the metro areas in the Carolinas, Greenville's gas is the cheapest. Those savings turned into smiles for locals at the pump on Wednesday.
A few months ago, "I'm loving it," was the last thing Heather Burton would have said at a gas station.Burton said she recently moved from Inman to Greer because she couldn't afford driving so far to work."Now it's like I could've stayed," she said. The national average for a gallon of gas is just over $2 -- less than half the price in July. But in Greenville, it's even cheaper. The average price of gas in Greenville's metro area is $1.87 a gallon. Some places have much better bargains than that. Wade Hampton Boulevard between Taylors and Greer is a gas-guzzler's paradise."It feels good to be able to drive a big car again, a big American car," Josh Seppala said. "I love it."Seppala said it used to take $100 to fill up his Escalade. Now he can fill up for about $40."That's less than half," he said. "It feels good."Some local drivers said they're looking forward to gas prices dropping even more."My wife says they're going under $1," a driver said. "When they were $4 and she said they were going under $1, I laughed. But now I'm thinking she might be right."According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, gas prices haven't dipped this low since 2005.
