Jillene Wahl
Storms have always been a source of fascination for Jillene. Growing up in Kansas helped turn that fascination into a passion which continues today.Jillene started at WYFF4 in January 2005 as a weekend meteorologist and weekday reporter. Then, in early 2006, she took another step into the newly created position of Weather Producer for both WYFF News 4 and WYFF 4 Weather Plus, the station's 24-hour a day weather network. Jillene's exceptional computer skills and firsthand experience as a broadcast meteorologist made her the perfect person for this key position. Most of her work is now off camera, although you never know when she'll show up on a WYFF4 newscast, filling in for other weather staff.Jillene is the first meteorologist in the Upstate and the 61st in the country to receive the new CBM (certified broadcast meteorologist) Seal in July of 2005. She also has the AMS Seal of Approval for Television Broadcasting, the AMS Seal of Approval for Radio Broadcasting, and the NWA (National Weather Association) Seal of Approval for Television Broadcasting. In addition she is proud to have had her work as a weather reporter recognized with a 2006 Southeast Regional Emmy Nomination.
She also volunteered on the American Meteorology Society Board of Broadcast Meteorology from 2003 - 05. As one of a dozen members from across the country, her duties included grading weathercasts of potential future AMS seal and CBM seal holders. Plus, she was primary planner of the annual broadcast meteorology meetings in New Orleans in 2004 and in Washington DC in 2005. Jillene got her degree in Atmospheric Science at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., in the early 90s and remains a loyal Jayhawk today.Jillene and her husband Tom, a freelance radio sportscaster, have one daughter, Jackie, who was born in December 2007.
